Phoenix Homesteads Historic District illustrates the federal government's resettlement program during the Great Depression and the relocation of disadvantaged farmers or unemployed urban workers to planned, parttime subsistence farm projects. The first section of the district was completed in 1935, and the northern section in 1937, with many homes exhibiting a romanticized Pueblo Revival style.
